Additions - August 18, 2011

  • ODP has released Announcement #109-11: Year 4 Cost Report Training Dates for Waiver Direct Service Provider Staff are set for September 7, 19, and 20. Each session will address different topics. Additional details and registration information will be available soon.
  • PCPA has confirmed for its September 20, IDD Committee Meeting and for the ODP session at the PCPA Conference on October 12, the participation of Deputy Secretary Kevin Friel, Interim CFO John Cox, and Bureau Chief Patty McCool. These are excellent opportunities for open discussion with ODP.

Recent announcements from the Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) include:

  • #107-11: AE Annual Quality Management Plan. Year-to-date evaluation process is posted on the AEIC along with due dates.
  • #108-11: Response Due Date Final Extension: PA Shared Living Services RFI. On July 18 ODP issued Information Packet #093-11 to solicit information from stakeholders regarding Shared Living Services. The due date for comments to the Department of Public Welfare is September 30.

The Governor’s Cabinet and Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities, under the Governor’s Office for People with Disabilities, continues with Ed Butler as executive director ( edbulter@pa.gov or 717-783-4287).

The Illinois Secretary of Human Services has announced that Pennsylvania’s previous ODP Deputy Secretary Kevin Casey, has been appointed as the Director of Developmental Disabilities. His start date is August 29.

Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection announces grants to small businesses looking to reduce energy costs. Businesses must be for-profit, partnership, or sole proprietorship which can apply for a 50 percent matching grant of up to $7,500 to acquire energy-efficient equipment. Details are available at www.depweb.state.pa.us.

Mark your calendars for PCPA’s Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Committee Meeting on September 20, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Central Pennsylvania College, Summerdale, PA. The agenda will focus on ODP funding and payment issues (Deputy Secretary Friel is invited), a  review of ODP problem regulations and suggestions for changes, and attorney Kevin Scott, Rhoads Sinon, LLP, will present on Special Needs Trusts, developing a will, and dissemination of personal possessions for those without a will.


A reminder that 2010/11 rates are now in HCSIS and PROMISe as the active 2011/12 revised interim rates, retroactive to July 1. Providers eligible to recover additional payments on previously submitted paid claims may begin submitting claims adjustments or voids. Before submitting claim adjustments or voids and resubmissions, remember to validate that the 2011/12 revised interim rate was successfully uploaded to the ISP and that the services are authorized.

The US Department of Labor announces a grant opportunity for the “Add Us In” initiative. This is designed to increase the ability of companies to employ individuals with disabilities, especially businesses owned and operated by various types of minorities. Information is available at www.dol.gov/odep/Addusin.

The PA Office of Vocational Rehabilitation announces its new director, Steve Suroviec, effective September 6. Steve has been The Arc Pennsylvania’s executive director since 2003. He has been an active member of the statewide Intellectual Disabilities and Autism Coalition. PCPA looks forward to working with him in his new role.
