ODP Updates

The Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) has released the following information related to the 2014/15 FY budget and Year 7 (2015/16) Cost Report Training.

  • Announcement #058-14: ODP Discussion of Fiscal Year 2014-15 Budget. Maestro Conference call scheduled September 4, 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  A copy of the ODP-enacted 2014/15 budget is available from RCPA August 6 IDD Update.
  • Announcement #059-14: ODP Year 7 Cost Report Training Date for Waiver Direct Service Provider Staff. Training is September 11 at 1:00 pm. Mark your calendars.

National Preparedness Month
September is National Preparedness Month and the 2014 theme is, “Be Disaster Aware, Take Action to Prepare.” The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has a variety of information available to assist individuals and agencies with emergency preparedness planning. These include a digital engagement toolkit, Ready campaign resources, and the brochure “Prepare for Emergencies Now: Information for People with Disabilities.”

ODP Updates
The Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) has released the following information.

  • Informational Memo #056-14: Updating provider and AE Contact Information for Provider Monitoring Fiscal Year 2014-2015. Direct service providers and Administrative Entities (AEs) are required to keep ODP informed regarding primary and secondary contact persons for provider monitoring. Updating this information must be completed by September 12.
  • Announcement #057-14: New Vendor Managing the Certified Investigation Training Program. Effective September 1, ODP will administer the Certified Investigation Training program in partnership with Temple University.

Creative Options Forums
Temple University and the Pennsylvania Training Partnership are offering forums in September across the state to address “Choices Beyond Group Homes.” Information will include how to buy a home when the only income is Supplemental Security Income (SSI), how to purchase a home for a family member, and how to use technology to live more independently.

Autism Update
President Obama reauthorized the Autism CARES Act on August 8. This law will provide $260 million annually through 2019 to fund autism research and tracking, professional training, and screening. This was previously titled the Combating Autism Act, but was changed to Autism Collaboration, Accountability, Research, Education and Support Act (Autism CARES).

There are now 14 medical centers in the US and Canada that are part of the national network to provide a central location for children with autism to receive “one-stop shop” autism care. The two in Pennsylvania are Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.

ODP Updates
The Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) has released the following information.

  • Announcement #054-14: 2014 ODP Required Training for Supports Coordinators (SC) and SCO Supervisors. ODP will provide 16 hours of the required SC training for calendar year 2014. The remaining 24 hours of required training should be obtained through local trainings and/or annual conferences. SCs can look at conferences such as PADES, September 8 – 10; Building Bridges, September 16 – 17; and the RCPA Conference October 7 – 10 to obtain the additional 24 hours.
  • Announcement #055-14: Availability of Pennsylvania’s Proposed Statewide HCBS Transition Plan for Public Comment. Public sessions are scheduled across the state and comments will be accepted until September 12.

PUNs Update
An Office of Developmental Programs work group has been formed to make recommendations to the current Priority and Urgency of Needs (PUNs) document. Coordinated by the Temple University Institute on Disabilities, this group will include families, self-advocates, supports coordination organizations, and administrative entities. The provider representative will be RCPA IDD Policy Specialist Linda Drummond.  RCPA members are asked to share with Ms. Drummond recommendations for changes to this document by August 25.

  • September 16 – 17: 2014 Aging/Intellectual Disability Cross-Systems Conference: Building Bridges. Holiday Inn, Grantville. Register at www.ltltrainingpa.org; a valid account must be established to register.
