The Direct Service Workforce Resource Center is offering a free webinar September 19  at 3:00 p.m. to launch its new data center. The data center provides up-to-date state-level profiles of the direct service workforce for individuals of all ages with physical, developmental or intellectual disabilities, chronic illnesses, and end-of-life care needs. Information is available at www.dswrecourcecenter.org.

In June (with an August revision), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services (CMS) released Reporting Reasonable Suspicion of a Crime in a Long-term Care Facility: Section 1150B of the Social Security Act. Copies of the CMS letter are available from Linda Drummond (linda@paproviders.org).

ODP is developing an aging services curriculum specifically for direct support staff. Topics include fall prevention, sensory issues, medications and dosing, chronic medical conditions, acute illnesses, and end-of-life issues. While not finalized, ODP plans to offer an aging certificate for staff, Training will be offered by webinar with a competency test to obtain the certificate. Suggestions for training topics may be sent to Linda Drummond.

ODP’s conference call on the provider monitoring process indicated the following.

  • Conference calls are being recorded and will be available by September 23.
  • FAQs for the calls will be posted on www.odpconsulting.net  after all monitoring calls are completed. Performance reports were withdrawn due to issues with data requested. In October ODP will send revised performance reports and data to providers.
  • ODP and AEs will review the data on the performance reports for outliers and trends.
  • Providers will be notified by October 3 to set up special accounts for select staff to access agency monitoring information.
  • Monitoring sampling will be sent out next week by the AEs.
