ODP Updates
The Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) has released the following information.

  • Announcement #073-14: Provider Monitoring 2014-15 Tools Now Available. All providers must complete the annual self-assessment using the monitoring tool. Each provider must complete one tool submission for the entire agency before the self-reporting phase concludes November 30.
  • Informational Memo #074-14: Provider Monitoring and Qualification Information and Changes for Fiscal year 2014-2015. All providers are required to complete a yearly self-assessment and to participate in an Administrative Entity on site eeview at least once per cycle.

President’s Proclamation
October is recognized as national Disability Employment Awareness Month. President Obama has issued a proclamation in recognition of this awareness effort.
The US Department of Labor Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) promotes National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), a national campaign that raises awareness about disability employment issues and celebrates the many and varied contributions of America's workers with disabilities. The theme for 2014 is "Expect. Employ. Empower."

NDEAM's roots go back to 1945 when Congress enacted a law declaring the first week in October each year "National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week." In 1962, the word "physically" was removed to acknowledge the employment needs and contributions of individuals with all types of disabilities. In 1988, Congress expanded the week to a month and changed the name to "National Disability Employment Awareness Month." Resources including posters and sample proclamations are available on the ODEP web site.

Child Abuse Consent Release (
Discussion at the September Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Committee meeting included concerns about delays in providers receiving abuse release forms for potential employees. The Department of Public Welfare Child Line and Abuse Registry Consent/Release form, if completed with the Child Line form, allows results to be returned directly to the potential employer.

ODP Updates
The Office of Developmental Program (ODP) has issued the following information.

  • Announcement #071-14: ODP It’s Your Turn Again! How and When to Share Your Thoughts and Ideas About ODP’s Futures Planning Next Steps. ODP is offering several options to collect stakeholder input into the Futures Planning process. These include a survey open until October 19, a web site link, and four regional face-to-face forums.
  • Announcement #072-14: ODP Year 7 Cost Report Website Now Available. All Year 7 Cost Reports are due by 11:59 p.m. October 30. Providers must attempt data submission by October 23 to ensure data is successfully loaded by the final deadline. If a provider’s cost report is not successfully submitted by October 30, it will not be included in the desk review process and will not be considered during the 2015/16 rate development process.

Fragile X Research
The National Institutes of Health has awarded over $35 million in the next five years for the Centers for Collaborative Research in Fragile X program. Fragile X is the most common form of inherited developmental and intellectual disability, with as many as 30 – 50 percent of this population also having an autism spectrum disorder. This genetic disability currently affects 1 in 4,000 males and 1 in 8,000 females.
