OMR Deputy Secretary To be Announced
April 29, 2003

Kevin Casey will be the next Deputy Secretary of the Office of Mental Retardation (OMR), beginning in mid-May. An official notice will be issued by Estelle Richman this week.

Casey is currently Executive Director of Pennsylvania Protection and Advocacy. He has been a staunch advocate on disability issues for many years, in Pennsylvania and other states. PCPA has worked with Casey on the OMR Planning Advisory Committee (PAC). He has been very supportive of the MH/MR Coalition’s recruitment and retention efforts and has promoted the concept that quality in the MR and MH systems requires a well-paid work force. He is, of course, also supportive of eliminating the MR Waiting List.

Casey and Lynn Keltz, PCPA Policy Specialist, worked jointly on disability advocacy projects through United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of PA and the Developmental Disabilities Council and will be able to continue that positive working relationship in the realm of OMR and PCPA. PCPA congratulates Mr. Casey on this new position and we look forward to working with him to further strengthen and enhance the MR system of services and supports.
