In a state with a lengthy history of delays in adopting a budget (see “Pennsylvania providers feel pinch from another state budget delay,” MHW, Aug. 25, 2025; https://doi.org/10.1002/mhw.34564), mental health and other human-services providers will quickly turn their attention to seeking to avert a similar scenario in fiscal year 2026-2027. Richard Edley, Ph.D., president and CEO of the state’s Rehabilitation & Community Providers Association (RCPA), told MHW that the broad-based Coalition of Critical Services Providers will meet in January as they attempt to take a proactive approach to advocacy for the next budget process.
“We’re already so late into the next budget cycle,” Edley said. “We just can’t be four or five months out again.”
