Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services issued a notice of Request for Information (RFI) seeking public comment on research, programs, and policies that have been successful in improving availability of and access to effective prevention, treatment, and recovery interventions for addiction, mental illness, and co-occurring substance use and mental disorders as well as to recommend novel policy ideas and gaps in research that could be addressed and implemented to further the Great American Recovery Initiative

For this RFI, information is being sought from the public, patients, people with lived experience of addiction and recovery, healthcare providers, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, policymakers, and others.

RCPA is drafting its response and welcomes any input or ideas from its members. The deadline for responses is Sunday, July 5. Please direct any comments to RCPA SUD Treatment Services Policy Director Jason Snyder.

Earlier this year, U.S. HHS Secretary Kennedy announced a $100 million investment in the Great American Recovery Initiative called STREETS – Safety Through Recovery, Engagement, and Evidence-Based Treatment and Supports. The program aims to support comprehensive, street-based engagement, treatment, and recovery support services for individuals who are homeless and have serious mental illness, serious emotional disturbance, substance use disorders, or co-occurring mental and substance use disorders. A Notice of Funding Opportunity was announced last week. Eligibility for the funding is limited to political sub-divisions of states (i.e., cities, counties), Indian tribes, and tribal organizations.
