National Council for Mental Wellbeing Releases 2026 CCBHC Impact Report

Message from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing:

The National Council for Mental Wellbeing today released our 2026 CCBHC Impact Report, the most authoritative overview of Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics.

Findings in the new report show that in 2025:

• CCBHCs are expanding access to care for people with the highest needs. In 2025, CCBHCs served and estimated 3.4 million people, an increase of nearly 13% since 2024. More than half of those served (54%) had SMI or SED, and CCBHCs served more than 500,000 people with SUD.
• CCBHCs are improving criminal justice outcomes. More than three-quarters (76%) of CCBHCs reported positive outcomes, including increased diversion from arrest to treatment, expanded co-response efforts, and reduced law enforcement time responding to behavioral health crises.
• CCBHCs are addressing housing and employment needs. Nearly three-quarters (73%) reported better housing outcomes, including reduced homelessness and increased housing retention, while 65% reported improved employment outcomes, such as work readiness and job retention.
• CCBHCs are increasing access for children, youth, and families. Nearly 73% provide services in one or more schools or childcare settings.
• CCBHCs are increasing access to primary care. Half provide primary care in the same location. They’re also partnering with primary care providers, such as FQHCs, to improve care coordination and access.
