Message from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing:
On June 1, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services released an interim final rule with comment period outlining how states will implement H.R.1’s community engagement (work) requirements for Medicaid. Beginning January 1, 2027, Medicaid expansion enrollees must complete 80 hours of qualifying activities per month to maintain coverage.
The National Council for Mental Wellbeing will hold a members-only webinar on Wednesday, July 1, 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm ET to provide an in-depth analysis of this regulation, discuss its real-world implications, and share actions you can take now to start preparing for these changes.
During this session, we will:
- Break down the interim final rule and highlight key ways it diverges from the statutory language in H.R.1.
- Outline important exemptions for individuals experiencing mental health and substance use challenges.
- Share early considerations for states and providers navigating implementation.
- Discuss high-level strategies to support coverage retention.
Have questions about community engagement requirements?
We encourage you to
submit your questions in advance to help shape the discussion.
